ASU Occupational Health and Safety Training

OH&S trainingUnder the Victorian Occupational Health & Safety Act (2004) all Victorian employers are required to provide a healthy and safe work environment for their employees.

The Act also allows for employees and their union to have direct input into the forming of Designated Workgroups (DWG) and the election of an OH&S Rep to represent that workgroup.

Paid training leave is available for courses approved by the Victorian Workcover Authority and the OHS Rep is entitled to select their preferred training provider.

The ASU is a Workcover Authority accredited training provider and runs the initial 5 day OHS Reps course as well as 1 day refreshers. 

1 Day Refresher Courses 

The refresher course covers:

  • changes to the Act following the introduction of the new 2004 Victorian OHS Act

  • the role of the employer in managing workplace hazards

  • the role of the OHS Representative

  • how to identify workplace psychosocial hazards that may lead to stress

  • how to assess the risk to workers in your designated work group

  • developing a case for control of the hazards

  • the role of WorkSafe

  • what the Act says about discrimination
