In October, the administration staff at HiChem Paint Technologies took a full day of protected industrial action.

Sigma claims a pill


Bargaining has begun at Sigma Pharmaceuticals, and judging from the gaping chasm between the claims of members and the company it may take some time to resolve.

The company has asked for substantial changes to the employment conditions, including decreasing staff’s RDO entitlements and increasing weekly hours.

ASU members are seeking to maintain existing conditions, but improve parental leave provisions and clarify some clauses which have caused disputes in the past. Members are also seeking an annual wage increase for the work they do building the success of the company.

Members will be asked to submit their views in relation to Sigma’s claims in the near future.

Gender pay tension high at HiChem


Administration workers at paint manufacturer HiChem have struck a blow for equal pay at the small workplace by demanding that the women in the office receive similar conditions to the men in the factory.

You will remember that under the conditions of the EBA negotiated earlier this year, staff now have the option of which fund they have their Superannuation with.

Many staff expressed an interest in possibly moving from their current fund to another. Many expressed their wish to explore the option of moving to ARF (Australian Retirement Fund). To this end the ASU have now orgainsed for a representative from ARF to attend at John Sands so staff can gather information.

Jason Dreggor from ARF will be available in the canteen on Thursday the 15th of June between 11.30am and 2.30pm to answer any questions you may have.

Also available on the day will be Monique Traverson from law firm Slater and Gordon. As a member of the ASU staff are entitled to a free will. Monique will be on hand on the day to assist with information regarding wills.
